Conductive Polymer

Scientific project

......................................................................................................................

Conductive polymers are promising materials for technological applications like the storage of energy, antistatic protection, electromagnetic shielding, corrosion control, the implementation of electronic devices, organic solar cells . An important part of our science project concerns the study of electrical properties of these materials.
Intrinsically conducting polymers
An important theme in our program is the study of the energy of a system in terms of the wave vector and the structure of energy bands of some intrinsic conductive polymers (polyacetylene, polyaniline, polypyrrole, etc.). Elements of this program include:
- Total energy vs. displacement dimerization
- Cohesion Energy dimerization according to the dimerization of displacement.
- Effects of temperature on the electrical conductivity
- Effect of the concentration of the dopant on the electrical conductivity
Composite conductive polymers
- Effects of the nature of the reinforcement particles on the conductor - insulator transition
- Effect of the geometry of the reinforcement on the conductor - insulator transition
- Effects of the concentration of reinforcement on the conductor - insulator
- Effect of the crystallinity of the polymer matrix on the conductor - insulator
Electromagnetic shielding and conductive polymers
- Study of interference
- Effectiveness of an electromagnetic shield
- Protection of pregnant external electromagnetic disturbances
- Applications: PU case of computers, motor vehicle, stealth systems (removal of the signing of a radar)
Conductive polymers and corrosion control
  • Justification for use of conductive polymers in the fight against corrosion.
  • Possible candidates: polymers formed from monomers containing aromatic rings may be oxidized to form bonds with delocalized p electrons strongly as polyaniline (PANI) or heterocycles such as polypyrrole (Ppy).
Aging electrical conductive polymers
  • Mechanism governing the decrease in the electrical conductivity
  • Mechanisms governing the electrical aging
  • Link these two mechanisms
