Scientific project
.................................................. .................................................. ..................
1. The first part of the theme deals with the stability of mixed systems combining polymers and colloids; It will be supported by Mademoiselle Bouzina who will stay for a year at the Institute Charles Sadron (Strasbourg) where she will work closely with Professor Michel Rawiso, CNRS Research Director at the Institut Charles Sadron (Strasbourg). To limit the study to that of the depletion interaction, Miss Bouzina will consider systems for which the adsorption of the polymers on the colloids is negligible. Moreover, it will place a limit which until now has been little studied: the association of small colloids and long polymers ( "protein limit").
Experimentally, Miss Bouzina will conduct a study of the thermodynamic and structural properties by light scattering (static and dynamic) and neutron scattering. The results will be compared with theoretical predictions taking into account the excluded volume effect for the statistical chains.
In the second part, Miss Lila Bouzina will perform osmotic pressure measurements and characterize the interactions between nanoparticles and polymers by establishing adsorption isotherms.
2. The second part of the theme, it is the study of thermodynamic, structural and dynamic properties of neutral polymers and loaded with different architectures (linear, branched, cyclic, dendritic, etc ...) placed in various environments (with the solid, melt and solution).
3. As regards the third part of the theme, it is devoted to the prediction of various thermodynamic properties of polymers of different architectures based on group contribution methods and the comparison of results of simulation and experimental data reported in the litterature.
4. The fourth part concerns the study of biological membrane systems loaded in interaction with their surrounding environment consisting essentially of ions. The calculation of the electrostatic potential created by the charged membrane achieves the majority of the thermodynamic properties of such systems.
